Who Are We?

We, at Barr Picard Knisely, are committed to utilizing our best skills and judgment to advance and protect your rights insofar as this may be done in accordance with law and the ethical standards of the legal profession.

Team Approach

Our Family Law Group employs "a team approach" to ensure that every client has available to him or her the specialized skills, training, and experience of all members of the firm. We are fortunate to have a vibrant intellectual community with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and insight to enhance each lawyer’s expertise.  Barr Picard Knisely has been at the cutting edge of family law development for over 30 years with our lawyers appearing regularly in all levels of Court including Provincial, Queen’s Bench, and Appeals Courts.  Although all members of the Family Law Group are successful in the litigation realm, we recognize the importance of strong negotiation to resolve issues in an amicable and efficient manner.

Accessibility

Barr Picard Knisely represents clients situated throughout Alberta including Calgary, Grande Prairie, and Peace River; we have, in fact, recently expanded our firm to Fort McMurray to better accommodate our expanding clientele. We have also been retained by clients in Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, as well as many parties outside of Canada.  To serve you better, lawyers are available who speak French, Japanese, Urdu, Punjabi, intermediate Arabic, and intermediate German.

Community Involvement

Barr Picard Knisely firmly believes in the value of giving back to the community.  Our legal team includes a former Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta, a recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Service Award, and several section executives for the Canadian Bar Association (CBA).  Our lawyers have instructed at numerous Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA) seminars as well as having acted in an advisory capacity in the recent implementation of the Family Law Act in British Columbia.  We have participated in and have organized multiple CBA events including Law Day.  Members of our team also volunteer with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre as legal counsel and the Edmonton Japanese Community Association as a board member.

What We Do

Our goal is to assist you in the difficult process of relationship breakdown.  We have extensive experience in both married and unmarried relationship dissolutions.  As long as the situation permits, we look to resolve outstanding issues by way of negotiation.  However, if necessary, we do not hesitate to enter into the litigation process.  The common issues upon dissolution of a relationship are custody, parenting, Child and Spousal Support, and property division culminating, if married, with a final Divorce Judgment.
